Short-billed Dowitcher - New Jersey

In the background you can see other birds walking the same path and feeding.

This was a new spot at this location for me to find shorebirds feeding on the exposed mudflats in Southern New Jersey this past Spring. Conditions need to be really on point as just few days later, birds where nowhere to be found. Lesson to be learnt here is simple. Visit a given location as often as possible and take a note of every aspect of the weather. Be it wind, rain, tide etc. Spring migration is rather short as shorebirds are in a hurry to get to their northern destination to find a mate and breed. If you are hoping to photograph migrating shorebirds this upcoming Spring, be ready to visit your locations often.
